The Benbrook Public Library now offers a “1000 Books Before Kindergarten” program. This program is designed to encourage families to read aloud to their children, especially those that have not yet entered Kindergarten. Research shows that the single most important activity caregivers and teachers can do to help children become successful readers is to read aloud to them every day.
Children from birth to age 5 are encouraged to participate in this online program. You will log the titles of the books that are read to your child. This includes Storytime! Participants will receive prizes after 250, 500, 750, and 1000 books are read. We will have a “graduation” party for all who complete the program in August of every year.
We have new software for tracking your books. You will need to register again and create a new account. This new software will allow for one account with multiple children registered. There is also an app that you can use to help you keep track of all the books you have read.
