Ticket to Read (New for Summer 2018)

About the Program

Ticket to Read is a reading game inspired by the board game Ticket to Ride. We’ll have a giant game board in the library featuring a map of destinations from literature. To play, draw cards from a deck and complete the reading tasks they prompt. Then, claim train track spaces on the game board, with the goal of ultimately completing tracks between destinations. By completing reading tasks and reaching destinations, players will earn entries into drawings for big prizes, including an eReader and gift cards to local businesses. You’ll also have opportunities to pick up coupons for local businesses and library services as you play. Play as much or as little as you like over the course of the summer and enjoy a literary adventure!

About the Program

Our “Summer Reading by the Letter” is a Scrabble-style reading game in which players complete a variety of reading tasks in order to earn tickets to enter into drawings for big prizes. Players will be given a game sheet with a pre-completed game board made up of words related to books and reading. They’ll then pull Scrabble tiles from a bag and complete reading tasks based on which tiles are drawn. For example, players who draw an “M” tile will be tasked with reading a mystery novel. As players complete tasks and words, they’ll earn entries into drawings for the chance to win one of three fabulous prizes, including an e-reader! We’ll have a humongous game board set up in the library that players can use to track and show off their progress. We doubt you’ve ever played such a giant board game (unless you’ve played life-size chess; then you’ve got us).

All readers ages 12 and over are welcome to play.

When It’s Held
