Overdrive is a service that allows you to read, or listen to, your favorite books for free from the Library! For most tablets and devices, there is a free app that you can download – Overdrive Media Console – that will allow you to check out and download the books with your library card.
If you have a device that is not connected to an app store, there are two options.
For most Nook devices, you will need to download the Overdrive Media Console Software from the website. This is available for both Mac and Windows users. Once you download the software, you can go to the North Texas Libraries on the Go website, to find the book that you want. Check the book out with your library card, choose the format Adobe EPUB, and the book should download into the software. At this point you will need to plug in your Nook to your computer with your usb cable, then drag and drop the book onto your device using the Overdrive Media Console software.
For Amazon Kindle readers (not tablets), it is a little easier. Go to the North Texas Libraries on the Go website, checkout the book that you want, and select Kindle as the format. Overdrive will then direct you to Amazon, where you will sign in with your account information, choose the device you want to download it to, then click Download Now. You should see the book in a matter of seconds.
