Friends of the Library | Benbrook Public Library

The Friends of the Benbrook Library organization was established in 1986.

In 1988, the Friends opened the Benbrook Library in a building donated by the City and the Water Department. It was operated entirely by volunteers. A petition drive was held by the Friends to form a library district. The initiative succeeded, and the citizens voted a 1/2 percent sales tax to operate a Benbrook Library District. The sales tax has allowed the library to be professionally staffed and governed by a Library Board of Directors.

The Friends of the Library is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. They have and will continue to support the Benbrook Public Library in our projects and programs.

The mission of the Friends of the Benbrook Public Library is to enhance the Library’s ability to provide excellent service to the citizens of Benbrook by obtaining supplementary funding for the Library, by helping to recruit volunteers to work in the Library, and by other assistance deemed appropriate and desirable by the Library Director and the Board of Trustees of the Library.

The Friends of Benbrook Library is a stand-alone non-profit group that helps fund our programs and events.

Volunteers are people who spend time helping with various tasks and projects around the library.

While some of our Friends of the Library do volunteer, and some of our Volunteers are part of the Friends, they are separate things and it is not required to do both.

Currently the Friends of Benbrook Library meet on the 3rd Thursday of the month from 6:30pm - 8pm.

These meetings are open to the public.
